AI image generation is impressive until it is not. The common failure is inconsistency: the same character looks different in every image, which breaks the sense that you are looking at a real person. HLT solves this with a fixed visual seed system. Here is how it works.
The consistency problem in AI image generation ¶
Most image generation models produce different results every time, even with identical prompts. For a general creative tool, that variability is a feature. For a companion platform, it is a problem. If your companion looks different in every image, the images feel like illustrations of a concept rather than photographs of a person. The emotional connection that makes a companion feel real depends on visual continuity.
What a visual seed does ¶
Every character on HLT, whether from the public roster or built in the Character Builder, has a fixed visual seed. The seed is a set of parameters that anchors the image generation model to a specific face geometry, skin tone, hair texture, and eye shape. When you generate an image, the model uses the seed as a constraint. The setting, lighting, and style can vary, but the character's face stays consistent.
How the Character Builder sets the seed ¶
When you design a character in the Builder, the appearance settings you choose (hair color, eye color, skin tone, face shape, and the 14 options added in March 2026) are used to generate the visual seed. The seed is locked when you save the character. You can update appearance settings later, which regenerates the seed, but this changes how the character looks in all future images. Existing images are not retroactively altered.
Generation latency by plan ¶
On the Premium plan, image generation takes under four seconds. On Ultimate, priority queue access brings that under two seconds. The Free plan does not include image generation. The latency improvement on Ultimate comes from a dedicated inference cluster that does not share capacity with the standard generation queue. During high-traffic periods, the difference between Premium and Ultimate latency is more pronounced.
What image generation cannot do ¶
The system generates still images, not video. It works best with clear setting descriptions: 'sitting at a cafe window in the afternoon' produces better results than 'somewhere nice.' The model does not generate explicit content. Requests that conflict with the character's visual seed (for example, asking for a different hair color than the one set in the Builder) will default to the seed parameters.
Image generation is available on Premium and Ultimate plans. If you want to try the platform first, the Free plan covers text chat with no time limit.
